The FIFA world cup also known as the Soccer World Cup or the Football World Cup, takes place every four years in various countries around the world. It is a soccer competition that is put on Federation Internationale de Football Association. It typically lasts one month long. The individuals competing in the World Cup are men who are members of FIFA. Countries from all around the world sponsor teams that bear their countries names, and the players compete for the chance to have their country claimed winner of the World Cup.

The first World Cup took place in May of 1928. Typically South American and European teams are the more dominating teams. This year, a record number of teams entered the competition to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. 204 tried out for the competition, but there are only enough spots for 32 teams. There used to be 24 slots, but it was increased to 32 in 1998, where it remains today.

Fans from all over the world travel to the location of the World Cup competition to cheer on their favorite team. In all, 76 nations have competition in at least one World Cup Competition since its inception in 1928. Some of the teams that have participated include Brazil, Italy, Germany, England, France, Spain, and the United States. The most decorated World Cup team is the Brazilian team. Brazil has taken home 5 titles, and also placed second twice, third twice, and even fourth once. Each year, the Brazilians are heavily favored to at least place, and they draw a large fan base receive a lot of support for the government and citizens of the country alike.
