This was a throwback theme as the contestants were billed to do songs from the 80s. The contestants were given a chance to do their thing and they brought it home. Brackensick started the night and did a number titled 'I Like It'. He is prone to use falsetto way too much but this performance was different and way better than others simply because he reduced this to the barest minimum. The judges really liked it. All three of them had something good to say about his performance.
Testone sang 'I Want To Know What Love Is' and Judge Steven felt that it was not the right song choice for her. And none of the judges really had something positive to say as such about her performance. Phillips has always been a powerful performer and he did an amazing job with 'That's All' two of the judges had positives to say but Jennifer Lopez said he did not start well.
Colton Dixon and Skylar Laine were the first to do a duet. They did a pretty good job doing 'Islands in The Stream'. Then Brakensick and Cavanagh did 'I'm So Excited' and if there was a downside to this song it would be that Brakensick's age being only 17 kind of gave the impression that there was no real connection.
The next solo act was Ledet who sang 'If You Don't Know Me By Now'. He is just 19 but showed an amazing maturity while doing this number and all the judges pointed this out. Sanchez did an upbeat song for the first time in a long time as she sang 'How Will I Know'. She sings with such effortlessness and all the judges had beautiful things to say.
Testone and Phillips then did their own duet and it was one of the better performances of the night. Cavanagh's solo performance was not good. Things went wrong from the beginning and continued all through. She sang 'What a Feeling'.
Ledet and Sanchez did their duet singing 'I Knew You Were Waiting for Me' and they got a standing ovation from the judges. It was like a match made in heaven as the bounced off each other and really gave a very good performance.
Dixon gave a different rendition of 'Time After Time' and his performance was so spotless and smooth that the judges said they could sign him on right there and he would start his professional career.
Sklyar Laine sang 'Wings Beneath My Wings' and killed the song. It earned her a standing ovation. The show was really interesting to watch. But the rest is now left fro the public that are going to be doing the voting. Such voting are never really fair so it would be hard to say that those that did poorly would go because there fans may just be ready to go the extra mile to have them saved. -
