Canadian author Tina Powell has published a book which is based on her “mission to create a renaissance of picnics”. Well, as one of the UK’s leading picnic table suppliers, here at Benchmark (http://www.benchmarkpicnictables.co.uk/) we know that picnics never went out of style, but we do agree with Powell when she says that “the world needs more picnics”. According to her, picnics are important because “We are all so busy in life, it’s so hectic, we need to slow down, take time out and enjoy the simpler, more important things in life such as family, friends and peace.” Well said!

At Benchmark we get to meet lots of picnic-lovers, after all we sell countless picnic tables each and every year to picnic fans from all over Europe. So we were happy to hear that one picnic lover, Canadian author Tina Powell, has just published a book called Picnic in Pisticci (Big Fat Pen Publishing Inc.) which is in praise of all things picnic!

In Picnic in Pisticci, which Powell calls a three year labour of love, she recalls some of her favourite family picnics around the world and includes some great picnic recipes. There are also some of her top picnic tips, such as partially filling water bottles, freezing them overnight and using them as ice packs in your picnic basket and then drinking them for refreshment when the water has melted. Powell believes (as we do here at Benchmark!) that “Spending quality time with family and friends in a special place with wonderful food will re-energize us just like a vacation does for going back to the real world.”

We particularly agree with Powell about the fact that the location of your picnic isn’t the be-all and end-all. Although she shares some lovely picnic stories from beautiful Italy (Pisticci is in Basilicata in the south of the country), she believes the location doesn’t have to be perfect to make a memorable picnic. We know that’s the case because so many of our customers describe how their humble back garden or tiny terrace gets transformed whenever they picnic on their picnic bench – and that’s without even leaving the house.

So why not take a tip from this canny author: slow down, pack a picnic and re-energise. To kit out your garden for as many impromtpu picnics as you like, visit http://www.benchmarkpicnictables.co.uk/.
