While the classified section of newspapers or magazines may not be of particular interest to the general public, it is of primary importance to job seekers and placement cells, businesses who wish to recruit, prospective brides and bridegrooms and so on.

The name Classified Advertisement came to be because these advertisements or announcements are segregated as per different categories. The Classified Ads page in a newspaper or magazine will have different sections such as: Matrimonial, Vacancies, Coaching Classes, Kitchen Appliances, Car Rentals etc. This division into different classes or subgroups in which the advertisements are placed make these Classified Ads.

Hence these ads can be termed as the most cost effective method of reaching the right people at the right time and getting real and tangible results.

The focus of classified ads has shifted from the print media to the internet and as statistics suggests classified ads on portals and websites, search engines etc are increasing day by day and the print media such as periodicals and newspapers are seeing a down trend in Free Classifieds as well as the paid ones.
