Pen drive brings us unpredictable risk as well as great convenience. We are always accustomed to save our handy files in pen drive instead of in a computer. Particularly for businessmen who travel a lot and have tremendous meetings, pen drive becomes your best friend as this tiny piece of thing carries your important files for any formal or informal occasions demand. But have you ever suffered the following situations and need to retrieve lost files from your pen drive?

Situation 1: accidently deleted files in my pen drive, they are lost forever

I thought some of files in the pen drive will be in no use and decide to delete them. So I just selected some and executed delete command. Never noticed that until one day I realized I have deleted a few of my really important files which were not intended to be done. I checked the recycle bin with nothing found. They are lost forever. Is there any way to retrieve my deleted files?

Situation 2: pen drive shows the disk in the drive is not formatted

When I inserted my pen drive to my computer, it’s detected but showing the disk in the drive is not formatted with a message pop out like “pen drive is not formatted, do you want to format it now?” I don’t want to do it as I have got so many files in it. But I know if I don’t format it my pen drive will be no useful any more. So I formatted it according to the indication. Thus all my files are lost. Is it possible to retrieve formatted files?

Situation 3: pen drive got virus attack and all the files lost

I was doing a paper in a net café bar using a public computer. I knew exactly I have saved the documents to my pen drive. But when I came back home and opened it to my laptop. Nothing is in it and all my paper files are gone! Almost the same time my laptop hinted me there were a few vulnerabilities. That’s extremely odd and I felt so frustrated. I guess probably my pen drive got virus or Trojan attacked in the café bar computer. How should I do if I want to retrieve my lost files?

If you have lost files from your pen drive due to any of the above situations, don’t panic! It’s easy to retrieve your lost pen drive files as long as you act as soon as possible. However before they are retrieved one thing you should keep in mind: don’t save any new files to the pen drive! Here is the explicit solution to retrieve lost files for each situation.

Solution for situation 1: deleted files in pen drive won’t be found in the Recycle Bin because the file data was stored in the disk of your pen drive other than in the computer. But they are not really deleted. They are simply removed from the directory and you can no longer see them. But the files content still exist intact. So at this point your lost files deleted can be retrieved by a data recovery tool.

Solution for situation 2: in this case you can insert your pen drive to another computer to see if it’ll still work normally, without luck? Then it seems that your pen drive corrupted or crashed. You’d better follow the message and format your pen drive. But it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll lose all your files inside as formatting also won’t make file data lost permanently. You can often rely on a data recovery program to retrieve formatted files.

Solution for situation 3: your lost files are probably hidden or deleted by virus or Trojan. They become invisible. If they are hidden, you may use anti-virus programs to remove the virus or Trojan and your lost files will be visible. If they are deleted, you may try a data recovery tool to retrieve lost files easily. However, the most effective precaution for such virus attack is taking USB Drive Encryption which will secure all your pen drive files permanently.
