Manipal Health Systems – one of Asia’s largest healthcare management groups lives up to the Manipal Group’s philosophy of ‘Inspired by Life’ by making quality healthcare accessible and available to everyone through the launch of “Manipal Homecare”. This home healthcare service provides comprehensive medical services on call, in the comfort and privacy of people’s homes. This will be made available presently through its hospitals at Bangalore, Mangalore & Manipal.

In support of this service, Manipal Hospital will also be commencing a health assistant training course which will be a one year course for students who have completed plus two or 12th standard to help nurses in non-clinical activities. This will open up new career opportunities for deserving candidates. In certain cases, arrangements will be made for a General Practitioner to visit the patient’s home and even link up the patient to specialists at a Manipal Group Hospital through a Web camera.

Speaking on the launch of Manipal Homecare, Mr. Rajen Padukone, CEO, Manipal Health Systems stated that, “Today being our founder Dr T.M.A Pai’s birth anniversary, we take pride in launching a service that further underlines his vision. He always believed in making healthcare very accessible to the community. This service will be tremendously convenient to all patients.”

Dr. S.C. Nagendra Swamy, COO, Bangalore Region, Director Shared Strategic Services, Manipal Health Systems who is spearheading this initiative said, “With this new Manipal Homecare service we will be able to offer comprehensive medical services to our patients in the comfort of their homes. This new service offers unmatched convenience as it will no longer be necessary for any patient to risk travelling to the hospital for certain basic medical procedures. The launch of this service opens a new chapter in delivering quality healthcare to the masses. There is no better place for a patient to recoup than in the comfort of his/her own home and we make that possible through Manipal Homecare.”

Dr. H. Sudarshan Ballal, Medical Director, Manipal Health Systems, said, “Manipal Homecare will also be a boon to the medical community as it will involve trained and qualified staff performing comprehensive medical procedures based on the instructions of a qualified Doctor in the comfort and privacy of the patients’ home. To truly serve the patient, this service will not be limited to only patients/doctors of Manipal Group Hospitals but it will also be available to any patient under the supervision of any other practicing physician in the city.”

Manipal Homecare will focus on providing the highest level of care and service and will be supported by the Group’s reputed hospitals. To begin with, the service will be available in Bangalore, Mangalore, and the district of Udupi. Recovering patients who need regular check-ups, children, elderly patients, and those who find it inconvenient to commute to the hospital can avail these services. Some of the homecare services offered include administering injections, blood tests, changing dressings, monitoring blood pressure, bath, bed making, back care, and vaccinations. In order to provide the best possible medical care at home and avoid unnecessary delays, mobile units will be stationed across the city with a professional team comprising a registered nurse, trained nursing assistant and a staff trained to do CPR.
