Different people will use shaggy rugs in their homes as a way to brighten the space and to make it appear more vivid or to enhance the theme that was made. You will make your own unique rug.

Creating a cotton shag rug is not an easy process - but neither is it overly tough. It is made of weave and heavy material that helps to make it lasting. The heavy cotton or rug yarn is what will be used to create the shaggy appearance. The fabric you pick out needs to be knit or woven into narrow strips of ¼” wide and 3” long.

You will be able to find the rug yarn and the burlap backing from any fabric store. Make a point to shop round for great deals and the perfect colors to utilize in your room. Smaller rugs only call for one yard of fabric. For extensive ones you should measure the space you need it to cover and sew one big slip of yards together.

Wash the back and iron it so that it is perfectly smooth. When it is flat you need to measure and cut it to the adequate size. Make sure that the hem is one inch longer in the width and the hem. Fold the hem below ½’ twice and stitch it around each of the borders. Start at one edge and hold the burlap down.

With your other hand, you need have to be holding the hook at the top and set it into the burlap. Each square of the cotton shag rug weave needs to be one stitch. Securely hold onto the yarn slips beneath the burlap and take hold of one strip in the center of the hook. Now draw the loop all the way through. Take hold of the ends of the strip and pull it all the way through the loop. Pull it tight until a knot is formed.
